Installing tar.gz of Adobe flash player on Laughlin
 

Hi!

When I untar the install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz it has usr folder and shared library libflashplayer.so so only I have to do is just to copy the usr folder on /usr and add libflashplayer.so on which location? /lib?

When you say Laughlin, are you referring to Fedora 14? If so, just download the yum or rpm version from Adobe. The current version of Flash is 11.

The mjmwired instructions are a little out of date, as the 64-bit plugin is now generally available with the Flash 11 release.

True, but the 32 bit plugin is more developed on than the 64 bit version.

Found that online....

Starting in Flash 11, the code base for the 32 and 64 bit plugins is the same; they are both developed equally from new code. The linuxtweaking instructions are for the old version; Flash 11 can now be installed via yum or rpm, whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit. There is no difference in the instructions.

Oh ok, I didn't know that. I haven't been following the 64 bit version for a few months. Go figure, I stop caring about it, and they finally fix it. :p

Yeah, they finally decided that once everyone - including Microsoft - was abandoning Flash in favor or HTML5, they would finally release the 64-bit version. They also sync'd the mobile versions (like Android). Everything got Flash 11 the same day, but I'm not sure anyone cares anymore. All the major web sites that use Flash have already converted to HTML5 or are planning to do so.

That explains it then. I guess I have to learn HTML5 now.....
