SuSe is a piece of shit (no hard feelings), when it comes to install from source. There's many reasons for it. It doesn't come with gcc, make and a whole bunch of libraries, All that stuff that you need to install from source. That right there is a dependency nightmare. So do not even try to install from source on SuSE. On the other hand YAST is pretty cool(for a noob). I compare SuSe with a toy. You can play with it, have fun with it feel more comfortable with Linux untill you have the desire for a real distro, like Slackware..... I recommend staying with SuSe, untill you feel you have the urge to switch to something different, then you can try RedHat and then Slack or you might wanna try Slack right after SuSe.

./configure --with-gui-please
make
make_install
More like....
emerge package
That was easy, wasn't it? All the compile-time flags taken care of, and no dependencies to worry about!
I love Slackware, but the power of Gentoo cannot be denied.
By the way, that document on How To Ask Questions was awesome. I think I'll make a plugin for links so that every time I type RTFM, it will replace it with that link.

.......unless you get a boxed edition.
i've grown so used to slackware that i prefer to install from source, even on SuSE and fedora.apt can be rough sometimes, but a running gentoo box and emerge is hard to beat.
ubuntu's pretty good over-all......it is sid based.it's also the reason i only use gnome on my gentoo box, kinda got used to the feel of it and like it.
RH 9 was kinda slow and the core series is just as bad.my slack box is the slowest processor after ubuntu and core3,yet it smokes them in terms of desktop speed.

I was just asking, because I just ordered the CD's I am sworn Slack user and wanted to see how it compares to Slack. I asked about RH, because RH9 was the only other distro I like other than Slack, even though Slack is far superior
