Installing Slackware froma usb drive

Hi everyone, Seasons greetings.
I have a compaq armada e-500notebook. The cd-rom drive isnt working but it has a usb port and the floppy drive is working. I currently have windows xp pro installed on it. I'm digust of it ( too much crashes, reboots, spyware etc ). I've been doing some reading about linux for a while now and downloaded slackware 10.2 and I want to install it on my laptop. I have sum experience with linux over the years. I used Redhat 8.0 and Knoppix 3.2 before, on my same laptop when the cd-rom was working. Can anypone please tell me if i can install the os from my usb flash drive (1 gig).Thanlz in advance.

If your BIOS supports booting from a USB device, just make it the first option in the boot sequence, and you should be good to go. If your BIOS does not support a USB boot, then your other option would be to mount the downloaded ISO as a loopback device and install from that.

Good luck with it and Welcome to LQ
