Installing/running Mac-only software
I'm looking for specific software, and am going through my options rather quickly. I've a unspectacular x86_64 (i3) based PC (laptop) at my disposal, with intel HD4000 graphics. I have no Mac experience.
There are Mac-only packages. They run on Macs, but not windows or linux. I know linux & Macs share a lot of common software.

You would need to have access to the source code in order to compile and run it in Linux. As for virtualization, you would need a macOS X image (iso, etc.), in order to boot that in VirtualBox. This is of course assuming you are talking about macOS X software, and not pre-macOS X, such as you might find here:
https://winworldpc.com/library/operating-systems EDIT: It appears as though they have early macOS X (up to 10.3) downloads available: https://winworldpc.com/product/mac-os-x/rhapsody Even if you have this, however, the software in question may not run on older versions of macOS X. |
1. The possibilities we can help you are zero if you don't tell us what the software is (we are not mind readers).
2. Technically it is a violation of Apple's EULA to run MacOS on a PC. However, assuming that you are comfortable with the ethical/legal ramifications (I am) then MacOS runs just fine in VirtualBox, in my experience. :) The easiest way to get the latest MacOS installer is to ask a friend with a Mac to download it from the App Store for you. |

Thank you kindly, TBone.
Source is a little scarce. I'll go the VM route. I have been told you can even do ARM vms, but I shudder at the thought. |
