Installing/running Mac-only software

I'm looking for specific software, and am going through my options rather quickly. I've a unspectacular x86_64 (i3) based PC (laptop) at my disposal, with intel HD4000 graphics. I have no Mac experience.

There are Mac-only packages. They run on Macs, but not windows or linux. I know linux & Macs share a lot of common software.
  1. What are the possibilities for shoehorning a mac-only package onto linux? I personally never tried it.
  2. Is virtualization a better way to go? I have virtualbox-6.0 installed, but what would I use for running the VM?

You would need to have access to the source code in order to compile and run it in Linux. As for virtualization, you would need a macOS X image (iso, etc.), in order to boot that in VirtualBox. This is of course assuming you are talking about macOS X software, and not pre-macOS X, such as you might find here:

EDIT: It appears as though they have early macOS X (up to 10.3) downloads available:

Even if you have this, however, the software in question may not run on older versions of macOS X.

1. The possibilities we can help you are zero if you don't tell us what the software is (we are not mind readers).
2. Technically it is a violation of Apple's EULA to run MacOS on a PC. However, assuming that you are comfortable with the ethical/legal ramifications (I am) then MacOS runs just fine in VirtualBox, in my experience. :) The easiest way to get the latest MacOS installer is to ask a friend with a Mac to download it from the App Store for you.

To answer:
  1. Zero. Mac OS doesn't play well with others, period. As said, if you have the source code you can *TRY* to compile it for Linux, but good luck. There is much Mac-foolery going on that your chances of getting it to compile AT ALL are slim.
  2. Yes, and I've had it running nicely under Virtualbox. You can even find pre-built OSX images with a Google search, that boot up and run just fine.

Thank you kindly, TBone.

Source is a little scarce. I'll go the VM route. I have been told you can even do ARM vms, but I shudder at the thought.
