Installing Printer

I am trying to install a network printer using rpm. A message comes back stating:
rpm -ivh diutil-1.0.0-17.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libtcl.so is needed by diutil-1.0.0-17
libtk.so is needed by diutil-1.0.0-17

The files do exist in /usr/lib.

I am VERY new to Linux, please let me know what I should do here.

Thanks, Jeff

Google for the libtcl.so and libtk.so files to find out which package they are in, then install the packages. A quick qoogle on my part shows the Mandrake packages are # tcl-8.3.3-21mdk.i586.rpm)
tk (e.g. tk-8.3.3-21mdk.i586.rpm)
The actual rpm is going to depend on your distro. Those should be on your installation disks if you have them.

Thank you for your reply. Please understand that I am a REAL Newbie to Linux (and Unix). I ran an rpm -qf on libtk.so and came up with tk-devel-8.4.5-8. I'm not sure what I am supposed to do with this information. Any additional help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks again, Jeff

What distro are you using? I'm not as familiar with the rpm command (as I use Mandrake and urpmi) but for the package you found it's going to be rpm (whatever switches for install) tk-devel-8.4.5-8
Then you'll need to find the appriopriate package for the tcl program and do the same. If it is not on your install disks you can go to a site like rpmfind.net to find it.

Installing Printer

I am using Fedora Core 2.0. rpm is the package manager used to launch applications. I am unable to locate tk-devel-8.4.5-8 anywhere. I assume that I am to find this file and then run rpm -ivh tk-devel-8.4.5-8. In doing this, the other files (libtcl.so and libtk.so) will then be "known" so I can run the print utility? First, is my assumption correct. Second, if so, where do I find tk-devel-8.4.5-8?

Thanks, Jeff

Check out this thread http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...03/12/3/125193
That sounds exactly like your situation. Follow those instructions.

BTW, www.linux.google.com is your friend.
