Installing Plug-ins

Ok, I've installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my laptop and so far I love it compared to Windows. It's faster and leaves a WHOLE lot more memory than Vista. I don't know why everybody doesn't use Linux, anyway, the only trouble I've had so far is installing flashplayer plug-ins and adobe. It will download and I can open it and look at all the files, but I can't get it to install. It will start to install, and then say it couldn't. Any help is very greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Tex,
You don't say what browser you're using so that makes it harder to help you.
Let's say you use Firefox. When all else fails it's easy enough to install the flash plugin manually. Go to this site: to download the Adobe Flash Player. Select from the pull-down menu tar.gz for Linux and click on the Agree and Install Now button. (Yes, yes, I know there's an Ubuntu deb package available). Close Firefox. Untar the tarball
tar zxvf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
. cd into the directory just created by untarring and you'll see the file called
Copy that file into your ~/.mozilla/plugins folder. Restart Firefox and you're plugin should now be working.
