Installing Oracle on Linux.

I am Installing Oracle9i on Red Hat Linux AS on the T40 IBM Laptop on the platform of Intel. But When I started the installation by executing the command ./runInstaller it shows me the error "cannot execute binary file".I checked the permission of the user(since I tried to install with username oracle) and also tried installing with user root but same outcome. The CD from which I am installing Oracle contained the dump in the form of zipped cpio archive which I later unzipped and extracted it from the archive.
