installing oracle

has anyone tried to install oracle 10g on linux? i tried on fedora 2 and got too many problems with libraries, did some search and i was refered to whitebox linux and still have problems, i get the misssage that your system is not RedHat 2.1 or Suse or united linux.

any suggestions or articles to follow up?

If memory serves the only thing that Oracle is really doing at the point that it gives you the error message is looking for a file called


It will look for this file (or the equivlant for SUSE or United...) and check the contents quickly. One work around is simply to create a file of this name and populate it with the name of an acceptable version of RedHat. For the excat verbage of the file I would suggest hitting Google, it should not be difficult to find this data.

That did the trick for me, I edited /etc/redhat-release so it reads:
redhat -3

and it worked.
