Installing on iMac G3

I wish to prove a point with my boss by installing Linux on a Mac iBook G3 (500MHz) which has only 64MB RAM and 8MB video. All it needs to do is use Internet via built-in ethernet and use something like OpenOffice.

Is this possible? If so, I'd welcome advice on appropriate Linux distributions for the iBook (and where to get them), and an office suite program that will run on such a slow machine.

I'm a relative Linux newbie, so any installation might need to be quite easy.

Many thanks.

Here is a link to the Gentoo Installation Handbook for PPC

If you try Gentoo I would recommend using binaries for any large packages such as OpenOffice.
You might have a problem with OpenOffice's speed ... it is recommended to run on at least 128MB ... you might find it a bit slow but usable (I have run it on a Pentium with 96MB ram).
