Installing New Cursor

I have been trying sometime to install a new mouse cursor in GNOME. I don't really like the one that is currently installed and I had found some alternatives on websites. How do I go about installing these?

If someone can provide some information, or point me in the right direction - that would be much appreciated!
Thanks.

Sorry about that:

I am using Debian with Gnome. And I downloaded an X11 mouse theme from gnome-look.org (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/sh...?content=42734)

Thanks!

The easiest way would be to use gcursor to install/choose cursor themes.

I wonder why someone hasn't anyone ported "Comet Cursor" from Windows to Linux yet?

Actually, I think the easiest way would be to unpack the tar file as root in /usr/share/icons. The pointers would then be available in your mouse preferences. But thats just my opinion.

How do I unzip to that folder. It says I need I don't have permissions to write to that folder. Is there someway to log in as root so that I can make changes to folders in GUI mode?
