Installing mplayer plug in for Mozilla Firefox

I have downloaded and (supposedly) installed the mplayerplug-in for mozilla firefox. The reason I say supposedly is because the files ended up in the correct folders "~/.mozilla/plugins", but they dont appear when I type "about: plugins" in the firefox address bar. If anyone has any information about this, I would appreciate it.

I installed it last night. Depending on your distribution, you'll need to copy the mplayer-plugin.so to the directory that your plugins are in. I believe in most distribs that would be usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins. Mine is Suse 10.0 RC1 and its directory is usr/lib/browser-plugins directory. You don't need to check if it shows up in your browser's plugin config, just check out some clips on quicktime.com or something.

Oops, almost forgot. You'll need to copy the mplayer-plugin.xpt file to /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/components or in Suse 10.0 /usr/lib/browser-plugins

I copied all the files into the directories you mentioned, but no luck. Do you know if there is any way to load the plugins into Mozilla, or should the browser automaticly pick them up if the files are in the correct directories? Perhaps a permission issue?? There has to be somthing obvious I am overlooking here...

if you copy the "mplayerplug-in.so" file to /usr/lib/plugins and then restart your browser it should work...

and yes, about:plugins should display the available codecs supported...
