installing mplayer

HI all,

I nned to install faad2-1.1-0.fdr.3.rh90 but it keeps coming up with
failed dependencies:
libsndfile.so.1(libsndfile.so.1.0) is needed by faad2-1.1-0.fdr.3.rh90

the libsnd rpm and libsndfile.so.1 are in the same directory as faad.

I've tried rpm -ivh *.rpm but get the same error. Is libsndfile.so.1(libsndfile.so.1.0) a diferent file to libsndfile.so.1? If not what's going on?
I really ned to get mplayer working to prove to my colleagues that linux might be a viable alternative to xp

it is possible to have dvd's,avi's, divx, xvid and so on playing reliably on linux

on madrake 9/9.1 there is xine and mplayer is on disk3

Thanks salparadise, that threads really useful. I did a few searches but didn't find that one - must need some new glasses.

Now I just need to get Samba properly configured and I'll be half way there.
