installing mandrake7.2 but failed to create at least one regular user
I just installed Mandrake 7.2. Durring the install after creating the root i was asked to create at least one regular user for yourself. The book calls her Queen Amidala. All i have is a root user, how can i create this user .The DrakConf main window,( the book explains) how to create a Darth Vador new user. Do i need a queen amidala user account and if so how do i get one?

the reason it reccomends creating another user is to protect the administrative functionality of the root account. Queen Amidala is just an example name, as is Darth vador (ever seen StarWars??)....I would suggest using your own name. I havent seen Mandrake in a while but I would assume there is a configuration pannel under "system preferences" or something along those lines that will allow you to add and remove users (assuming you are using a graphical interface). If not use the console shell and type the command: "useradd -m <username>"
without the quotes and replace <username> with the name you want to use as your login name (such as: Queen Amidala) as long as you have any non root account that you use to login you should be fine...regardless of its name |
Log in as root.
If you use console login: Type linuxconf and press enter, go to user accounts and create a new user. If you use a gui login: Bring up the Mandrake Control Center and look for users. Create a user. Now, log out of your root account and into your user account. # Mandrake links Mandrake home page Mandrake Users website Easy urpmi config for Mandrake urpmi mini-HOWTO Easy software management: Red Carpet Maximum RPM rpmfind You didn't install the developmental packages? As root, command: urpmi gcc An Introduction to the Midnight Commander. You can install it by commanding: urpmi mc Midnight Commander home page A user can be any name, for example, I use Fancy Piper (login fancy). |
