installing mailx

Hi ,

I have to move application from a proprietary Unix system to Linux. The previous system has lots of script which uses "mailx" to send mails. The system has "mail" command also to send mails.

The new Linux servers have been setup but there is no "mailx" on it. Whenever I use "mailx" from the command prompt it exits with the error message :
"bash: mailx: command not found"

Although I can send mail using "mail" , my concern is that I have to change lots of code for using "mail" instead of "mailx".

Are "mail" and "mailx" same?
What's the difference if any?
Do I need to install "mailx" separately? If yes can you please point out to some reference material on web from where I can download and install it preferably from source.

Thanks & Regards,
Sharad

What distribution are you using? Mailx should have come with your distribution or be easily installable. If it's debian you should be able to apt-get install mailx.

installing mailx

Hi,
It's the RedHat 7.2 installed. I can use "mail" command from the command line and from with the shell scripts and it is working fine. But when I use "mailx" command it gives the error : mailx: command not found.
/bin/mail is present.

Thanks
