Installing LiveCD -> HDD?

I'm trying to put a LiveCD version of Ubuntu to boot off my MP3 player.
I initially tried to do a regular install, but I don't think the hard drive in the player was up to it, and constantly gave errors of missing files.

So basically what I want to do is get the LiveCD version on there (same as a CD - Read Only)

How would I go about doing that?

I'd prefer to use the Ubuntu LiveCD, because I want things like X and so on.
And I have experience with the distro so I know my way around it...
