installing linux through USB

Hi,
My machine unable to read DVD content, so inorder to install linux , I am copying the linux contents (from iso image) to a USB and there after copying them to my machine.

So can I install from this extracted content through USB now ? I am copying to ubantu now and i want to install opensuse for openfoam (some s/w which runs on opensuse only)

I don't have liveUSB.
Thanks,
Barun

Last time I needed a USB linux live drive, I used syslinux to make a Slax ISO bootable. They have it for download on the www.slax.org site for their quite sufficient Live Distro.

This is the wiki for syslinux:

You can use unetbootin to easily convert an install iso into a usb install.

http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net

It may even be packaged for your distro.

Cheers,

Go to pendrivelinux.com for ideas on different ways to install os's to flash drives.

Could still use a floppy or cd/usb to net install.

See also netboot.me and bko for gpxe installs.

I tend to leave distro's on usb drives. Not much use in putting them on the hard drive even.
