installing linux onto second hard disk

hi,

i just got a new hard disk (SATA by the way) and i'm planning to install linux onto it. i've never installed linux onto a new hard disk before. After I connect the hardware, how should I proceed? I'm aware of how the whole fdisk procedure goes, but where do i begin? I believe this hard disk will become my primary slave as well. how do I boot to my new installation from my existing lilo?

thanks

If you're dual booting, your new hard disk (the one that will have linux) should be a slave.

The distro's I've worked with (RedHat, Fedora) will install neatly on a hard drive and configure itself. Insert the CD/disk and see what it offers you.

again, the installation should configure your lilo.conf/grub.conf automatically based on your configuration.

since i'm installing on my slave drive, how do i boot to slack from my primary master, which has lilo?
