Question

Hi, this is my first attempt at using linux so if my question might seem dumb. I did a dual install of linux and windows and everything seems to work i can load windows and i can load linux. But when when I load linux it goes into what I think is called the console mode and I have to type in my username and password. I did that I got logged in I also was able to log in as the administrator. I setup(or tried to setup) my sound card. Now that I got all that done what do I do next? I though it what supposed to have a GUI like windows does. So far it's all text based. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you installed X window system (the GUI) when you installed Linux, you can start the window system with command startx.

If you didn't configure the X windows during install or if startx gives you just error messages, you must configure the X windows. Try these commands to configure X (and note, the names are case sensitive!) XF86Setup or Xconfigurator or xf86config
