Installing REDHAT??
I just ordered RedHat 9, and i am wondering if its pretty simple to install, and partition my hard drive and all that? Will RedHat come with instructions to do all that???thanks..

Yes, it is pretty easy :D there will be instructions
You can start reading here: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...install-guide/ |
Should i have got Mandrake????
|
cool thanks..
|
ehhh....i've never tried mandrake, although it is very user friendly
I started with RH9 when i first started, and i thought it was great... its a good choice |
www.distrowatch.com is a great resource for info about the different options fi you want
|
yea, ive been using mandrake for almost 2 months now, its really easy to install and deffinately user firendly. but its a bit crashey and ive heard that most other linux distributions are more solid.
When i first got into linux i tried to use Debain for the ease of 'apt-get install' but the install was tough, even with over the phone help of one of my debain expert friends. my kernel was messed up and i went crazy so i went to MDK9.2. but mandrake is prolly the best place to start. otherwise you might go crazy and kill yourself if your new to linux like me... |

You've already pretty much asked this same question 7 days ago where you recieved replies and acknowledged another member sending you a link to the instructions, etc.
Please do not double post the same questions or start the same discussions in more than one thread/forum, etc. The other thread can be found here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=139756 Please review our rules here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/rules.php |

"installing linux" doesnt say what part you're having trouble with, no one will want to help you
although i dont know your situation... here is a link where you could have downloaded red hat http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/9/en/iso/i386/ ---- when i made the redhat9 cds i only made 3, im sorry you have nine. i searched on redhat.com for SRPMS difference -from what i found i think you could use the SRPMS (source of the rpms) rather than the (generically compiled) binaries. there probably wont be any difference. if you can find the cd that has documentation for the US, and search for "SRPMS" you will probably find out which cd set you prefer to use. unfortunatly you will have to read quite a bit to learn what you are looking for. -redhat8 will ask you if you want to manually configure the partitions, im pretty sure redhat9 asks too but with less options. im sure that you will find help on this or other forums for you future troubles IF you post exactly what happend and you do it in an attitude-free manner |
