Installing Ldoce at Ubuntu 6.10

Hallo!

I want to install ldoce (Dictionary of Contemporary English) at ubuntu 6.10. By using the command sh, I started the installer normally and without problems. The problem appears when the installer askes me to insert the second cd-rom into the driver, in order to continue the installation. I push the button to eject the first cd-rom but nothing! When I used the commands eject and umount the result was a message telling "The device is busy". Do you have any ideas?

Thank you and
sorry for my English level.

Hi,

the reason might be Nautilus getting stuck on trying to create thumbnails or whatever for files on the cdrom.
Use 'lsof|grep cdrom' (grep for actual mount point) to see what process is keeping files open on the cdrom.

I wrote the command that you told me in a Terminal and these are the results:

internet@doryforos:/media/cdrom0/linux$ lsof|grep cdrom
bash 7185 internet cwd DIR 22,64 2048 52416 /media/cdrom0/linux
lsof 8132 internet cwd DIR 22,64 2048 52416 /media/cdrom0/linux
grep 8133 internet cwd DIR 22,64 2048 52416 /media/cdrom0/linux
lsof 8134 internet cwd DIR 22,64 2048 52416 /media/cdrom0/linux

Now what am I supposed to do??

ok, you are keeping the cd from being unmountable yourself, because you are in a directory of the cd.

Change your current directory to somewhere outside the cd (e.g. 'cd ../..') and you should be fine.

Thumbs up OK! Problem Solved

All I had to do was to run the sh file, that is located in the linux folder of the cd1, as a root.

So, Ubuntu users, all you have to do in order to install the Longman Dictionary Of Contemporary English is to open a Terminal and type the following command:

sudo sh /media/cdrom0/linux/installation.sh
