installing kismet

how do you install kismet? i'm running fedora10 and i think i've installed it from the repository, but i can't get it to work. it quits before it has done anything. it does, however, get my card into monitor mode without any problems. do i need to install a server, or a client or is it all included in the repository package. here is the fatal error that i get:

NOTICE: configdir '/root/' does not exist, making it.
FATAL: Could not make configdir: File exists
Didn't see any weak encryption packets, unlinking weak file
Sending termination request to channel control child 3099...
Waiting for channel control child 3099 to exit...

I do not use Fedora, but generally the best-practice is to use a package manager. Do you have yum or apt? Try installing via one of those, if possible.
