installing j2sdk 1.6.0 on RHEL4

Hi,

I am using RHEL AS V4 U3. i recently downloaded bin format of jdk1.6.0. When executed it as root, it extracts all the files and sits idle. I mean, it does not updating any system environmental variables and paths. My system unable to identify the new version and still using the old one. How can i configure java so that all other programs also use the latest verion.

Thank you.

Which version of the jdk-1.6 package the rpm.bin version or other??? It does not really matter what does matter is it installed or not??? Check the /usr/java directoy (rpm.bin version) or the /opt directory location to know.

If installed then review; http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=517133
