I would like to install the Windows based HAVA PC Player (similar to a Sling Box) software on my Unbuntu 10.04 PC. The download is located on the myhava.com web site under Support, then 'Downloads and Upgrades', and then click on Download HAVA_V1.8.1.36.exe.
I have never used WINE or similar software on my PC and wondering if anyone has ever tried this before or had any tips or tricks to installing the HAVA PC Player on a linux based PC.
The software doesn't install under wine, it stops with a critical error message. It installs up to a point in xp VirtualBox machine. The xp install doesn't complete because it cannot find the hardware, that's because I don't have one.
Hi, thanks for the info!! Correct, I tried over the weekend and under Wine, it does indeed stop with a critical error. However, do you think it will work in XP VirtualBox (I've never heard of XP VirtualBox)? The reason I say this is because even in Windows, it tries to find the hardware on your network... You can just ignore this part and then move on to setting up the HAVA.
Its Virtualbox, not XP Virtualbox. Virtualbox is a Virtualization Software, it pretends to be a whole PC, so that can install an OS in it, in your case Windows XP would be the right one.
However, do you think it will work in XP VirtualBox (I've never heard of XP VirtualBox)?
VirtualBox is an application that provides a 'fake' environment which allows you to install various operating systems within it. I should think as long as you can communicate with the hardware it should work, even on a virtual operating system.
