installing gphoto2 on redhat 9

After installing gphoto2 i get error

checking for gp_library_version in -lgphoto2 ......no

configure: sorry you need at least release 2.1.2 of libgphoto2

but i have installed release 2.1.4 of libgphoto2 .....

why is configure saying it needs 2.1.2 or later when 2.1.4 is installed ?

earlier i see it finds libgphoto2 >= 2.1.2....yes ????

have i missed something here ...?

this isn't a paritcularly insight post... you don't even say that you're trying to install another program from source....

but, anyway... you installed gphoto2 from rpm? install gphoto2-devel

i am installing just one program gphoto2 the library files are packaged in another tar.gz these are libgphoto2-2.1.4 both were installed at the same time and both were tar.gz packages

libgphoto2-2.1.4.tar.gz was installed first then gphoto2-2.1.4.tar.gz immediately after

there was no previous version of the same program on the machine before ... do i still need to install gphoto2-devel
?
