im trying to install the newest version of gaim, 77, from the one currently installed, 56 and it wont seem to work. Ive dled the rpm from gaim's website (gaim-0.77-0rh9.i386.rpm) and when i double click it a window opens up and then closes (does it so fast i cant read what it says). the window's heading is "preparing system update" and the box says "before modifying the packages on your system, package dependencies must be determined. this process may take a few minutes." if anyone could help me plz post, im real new to linux so just assume i know nothing.

try installing it from console. use

rpm -Uvh gaim-0.77-0rh9.i386.rpm

I have had a lot of problems installing from package manager in X. it takes a lot of time to check all installed packeges and check dependancies.
