installing fonts and gui tools

I have just come from mandriva 06 to debian etch, so im not exactly comfrtable with editing config files manually. So I was wondering if anyone could suggest any gui tools for doing admin tasks, they typ of things that the mandriva control centre allowed you to do.

Secondly how do I go about installing fonts. I have calibri in ttf and I am unsure how to go about installing them. Do they need to gointo the xorg directory?

Ia am running gnome 2.12.3

Thanks in advance

Michael

If you have a setup anything like mine, you just need to drop the ttf in /usr/share/fonts
