Installing DivX software

Looking for help with downloading DivX software to work with 17.3 Mint system, what I have run into so far will not work with the debian system, any ideas ? Thank You. Or maybe some other player would work to watch videos that use DivX.

DivX is not needed, encoding to DivX is even not supported in Linux. DivX complies with MPEG-4 standard, so any decoder capable of MPEG-4 can be used to play files encoded with DivX.

You are possibly looking for Xvid (divx, spelt backwards!). VLC plays divx/xvid, and FFmpeg can encode and decode xvid.

An xvid video can be played by divx players.

All Linux video players play back DivX. All of them.

All else being equal, give the player called "VLC" a try.
