I formatted my HD without windows system files and then tried to install caldera 2.4. The installation screen comes up, then I get an error of some kind of compressed volume on the HD. Is there something that I'm missing? Can this be fixed? I can install windows just fine, but not Caldera open 2.4.. Please Help.

digital_l,

Sounds like you formatted your primary DOS partition but you have at least one other partition on the hard drive that the Linux installer doesn't like. Did you check your hard drive partitions with FDISK? You should try booting the machine from a windoze/dos system floppy and run FDISK. Option 4 displays partition information. Try using FDISK to delete all your partitions. Once they're all gone, you can use option 1 to recreate a primary DOS partition and make it active. Sometimes FDISK doesn't get all the partitions no matter what you do.

There is a utility called "gdisk" that is much better. It's very small and can be added to a standard windoze/dos boot floppy. It will pick up where FDISK leaves off. Reply to the post if you end up needing it and I'll see if I can point you in the direction of where to get it.
