The HP G4010 is supported with the sane package. I have it working on Slackware. I use Xsane as the front end.
You should know not all functions are working yet with the sane package. It will scan at lower resolutions, the buttons on the lid do nothing in linux.
If you need full functionality, as I do at times, you can always install v-box and install XP in a virtual machine, then install the windows support that comes with the G4010. Your choice, that is what I did. I don't know anything about the 3010 though.
You should find the sane and xsane packages in ubuntu repos. As far as 9.04 is, not sure what level of sane is there. You will have to look. For the record, I have the following versions of sane and xsane.
Quote:
[ installed ] - sane-1.0.22-x86_64-2
[ installed ] - xsane-0.998-x86_64-1

This is a 64 bit system, there should be 32 bit packages as well.
