Installing a php module

I just want to know what'd happen if I install the ftp module in a server running because i don't want to stop my server, so this is my question.
What happens whether I install that module on my server?

I mean i want to install this module

You probably need to recompile with --enable-ftp.

If you have a second box that is running the same os you could build a package. then move it to this box and uninstall the old php and install the new package. Slackware Redhat or Debian I recommend checkinstall.

This server is owned by a client so he doesn't want that server goes down when i install this module.

Would i find any trouble installing this module on this server or may be will it be installed and compiled with no troubles?
