Installing a 3rd os/grub

I had xp, compressed it, installed FC3 (along with grub). What is the best way to install a 3rd with out it overwriting grub? I am wanting to install win server 2003. I am afraid that it'll just wipe everything out like windows likes to do.

Any advice on this?

most likely it will overwrite grub

There are a couple ways to fix it- one involves making a grub boot floppy disk (which I don't know how to do)

The other is to use your fedora CD as a rescue CD:

Once you've installed Windows again and everything there is happy (and your GRUB has been overwritten on the MBR), make sure your BIOS is booting to the CD first and pop the FC3 disk 1 in. At the linux prompt, linux rescue. Then chroot /mnt/sysimage to load the root. Then run grub-install /dev/hda to put GRUB on the MBR.

I think you'll have to add the new Windows installation to your /etc/grub.conf file manually. You'll probably want to backup your /etc/grub.conf file before you do any of this anyway.

Grub-install fails?

Hi

I am trying to reinstall Grub and have followed these instructions... after the command "grub-install /dev/hda" an error message is displayed: "The file /boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly"

Is there a work around?

C
