Installed MPlayer and now sound doesn't work

I installed mplayer (via yum) the other day along with a few codecs. Ever since, all sound files (not CDs) play but the only sound that comes out is a continuous sort of crackle popping sound. Is it possible one of the codecs screwed everything up? How can I restore Fedora's defaults again?! I want my sound back!

Thanks so much.

Peter

mplayer won't affect any system-wide sound settings...
Are you using ALSA? If so, try running alsaconf again to reset to default.
Then run alsamixer to adjust your settings.
