Welcome!
Linux is good for creative people.
If you have any Linux installed (Ubuntu, Mint, etc.) and a network connection, then you can install open-source creativity apps like: audacity, ardour, blender, inkscape, gimp, etc.
Take the "Ubuntu Studio Tour" to learn more about open-source creative software:
http://ubuntustudio.org/tour/
But: you do NOT need to re-install Ubuntu Studio to get the features! If you have working internet on Ubuntu or Mint, then you can install individual software "suites"! Music? Graphics? Videos? You chose! Find the Terminal and enter some (or all) of these commands to get the studio apps without having to full-reinstall:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-audio ubuntustudio-graphics ubuntustudio-photography ubuntustudio-publishing ubuntustudio-video
Or, download Ubuntu Studio and try in "live" mode to get a sneak peek!
Now... Your network problem... I don't think I understand. Can you give more details?
