Installed Debian without bootloader, now netbook wont boot haha
 

Hi everyone. So I attempted a duel boot with windows and Debian 6. I downloaded
Debian and went through the installation. I initially believe I messed up the partitioningof the drives. I have 250 gb of hard disk space. It offered me three drives to partition. The first had 151 gb, the second had 7.3 gb and the third had 52 mb. The only one that allowed me to resize was the 7 gb one so I went and lowered it to be 80%. I still found this confusing though because why would it only allow me to partition 7gb? Where did these 7gb come from? After that I got errors saying it did not install grub. I skipped this thinking Windows was still running and just figured I could use a Linux boot cd every time. After restarting the screen started spitting out a. Error that said please install proper boot loader software. This has baffled me and I am wondering if my computer can be saved. Thanks in advance!

What's the make & model of machine
Looking at what you listed as partition sizes you should've had about 80g left out of 250g.
The 7.3g may have been recovery partition.
Post output of fdisk -l someone here will be able to assist you
Another thing if you haven't written anything to boot. Use gparted live and set the boot flag for windows it may just boot.

Ok so I have an ASUS Eee pc 1001 pxb. It is a netbook.

Ah I did not think about it being a reserve partition. The main issue is when I boot the netbook, it automatically prints this error without showing me the ASUS screen or giving me an option to open the BIOS.

Ok so I found out if I leave it alone for awhile it will allow me into BIOS. I changed the primary booting system to my external cd drive and I booted it with the Debian disc and it prompted me with the installation. I fixed the partitioning issue, I just didn't have a root drive. But I am having the same problem with GRUB and LILO. It starts to install it then says an installation step failed, try again. Keep in mind I am also experiencing this error while installing the packages. If any more information is needed please ask, and thanks again for the help

Asus has an option in bios that says

XD Disable [option]
option enable or disable
select disable.

You really need to make sure that your recovery partition is ok.

The Bios has an option for the boot loader? What would that be under. I'm about to check and see if it works. Atleast I figured out how to not install linux haha

Right now that machine is updating,soon as it's done I'll let you know.
I think XD stops a program from writing to the Mbr.
