installation problems with libxml2-2.2.66.tar.gz and libxml2-devel2-2.6.20-3.tar.gz

hello,
i need to have libxml 2.2.66 and libxml-devel installed. I want to have built it from sources.
My machine compiles, makes and make install the 2.2.66. So far so good.

/$ tar -xvzf libxml-devel unpacks several folders in /usr. So far so good

But when configuring "kino" afterwards the following error message appears (please have a look at the end of the message):

linux:/ # cd usr/kino-0.7.6/

When using the libxml2-devel-2.6.22-1.rpm it writes I do not have installed libxml2

linux:/ # rpm -i libxml2-devel-2.6.22-1.i386.rpm
warning: libxml2-devel-2.6.22-1.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID de95bc1f
error: Failed dependencies:

Can someone help me?

Try to start with libxml2 and only then libxml2-devel. But IMHO -devel is not
necessary if you build libraries from source... It is right for any source I
ever compiled. May be there are specific SuSe tarballs, so you should compile
them in a proper seauence.

thanks for the fast reply ;)

libxml2-2.2.66.tar.gz should be installed now ?! (configure, make, make-install worked without probs)

Nevertheless kino gives the error message (look above at post no. 1, please).

The file xml2-config evidently exists!!! It is in the folders
a) /usr/local/bin/xml2-config
and
b) /usr/libxml2-2.6.22/xml2-config
(although the links are done automatically when compiling I did it manually again --cflags and this stuff (written in the libxml2 faq))

Maybe you could find out the problem essence looking at the config.log?

g-string 3 11-24-2005 07:27 AM

What to search for?

Ygrex 11-24-2005 11:02 AM

In the end of the config.log must be an error report. It should contain the
exact causing of the fault.

I solved the problem by setting PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin

thanks for your attention
