installation problems

Please, I would really appreciate if someone would help with this. I am trying to upgrade Linux to version 4.3.2 (current version is 4.0.6).
I am using the following configure line:

./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local --with-apxs --enable-track-vars --enable-versioning --prefix=/usr/local/www

I did this once on another account I have and it worked. I am now doing it on another and keep on getting this error:

--
Installing PEAR environment: /usr/local/www/lib/php/
[PEAR] Archive_Tar - already installed: 0.9
[PEAR] Console_Getopt - already installed: 1.0
[PEAR] PEAR - already installed: 1.1

cp: /usr/local/www/lib/php/build/shtool: Permission denied
cp: /usr/local/www/lib/php/build/mkdep.awk: Permission denied

Any ideas why? Like I said, I would REALLY appreciate any help. Im really stuck.

Thanks

Joe

You mean you're trying to upgrade PHP to version 4.3.2.

What's the permissions of /usr/local/www/, /usr/local/www/lib/, /usr/local/www/lib/php/ and /usr/local/www/lib/php/build/ ?

Are you doing this as root?

Thanks for your help.

I am doing this as root.

The permissions are:

/usr/local/www/ drwxr-xr-x 20 root wheel
/usr/local/www/lib/ drwxr-xr-x 4 root wheel
/usr/local/www/lib/php/ drwxr-xr-x 29 root wheel
/usr/local/www/lib/php/build/ drwxrwxrwx 2 root wheel

Any ideas?
