Installation problems

Please help:

I am new to linux and I am trying to install red hat 7.2. and my system has an 8.4 gig hard drive and i am getting an error like: error mounting device hdb3 as/. then it says this most likely means this partition has not been formatted.

I used the automatic partition option. Can some one please help me configure my hard drive correctly. I also get a message that my hard drive exceeds the 1024 limit.

Thanks,

How old is your motherboard? Have you got another OS/hard drive? Unless I'm mistaken, 'hdb' indicates a second hard drive....

If you are getting a message like 'exceeds 1024 limit', it may be that your BIOS is either old or not configured correctly. If that is the problem, then the drive specs reported to Linux by the BIOS would be wrong and may account for the failure to install the root partition.

Another possible reason is that the installation is trying to place a bootloader outside the first section of the boot disk - which may account for 'hdb'.

It may be a good idea to post your system specs.
