Please be sure your the .bash_profile text file has the usual paths as well as the one you want to add.

Like /usr/bin /usr/local/bin, if it is corrupted you may want to reinstall bash(delete or rename your ~/.bash_profile) to repair it.

If the file is intact, I suggest you post on the grass forums. Google is your friend.

Only other thing I can think of is ldconfig and symlinks.

run man for symlinks and ldconfig to see what they do.

Generally I use

sudo symlinks -csrv / && sudo ldconfig -Cfrv

This will check the links (shortcuts) for your system and update stale ones and drop dangling links.
