installation - partition / swap problem

Hello.

I'm attempting to install RH 7.2 on a PII system with an ~8GB HD. I boot from a CD and setup linux up to the point of the partition format. I allow RH to automatically set up the partitions, with full reign of my HD, but the installation crashes with the following message:

"Error Enabling Swap Device hdc7: Invalid argument
this most likely means swap partition has not been initialized "

I have made sure that all the partitions are flagged for formatting and this error still occurs. The HD is broken down as follows;

size(MB) type label
hdc1 47 ext3 /boot
hdc2 5271 ext3 /usr
hdc3 1930 ext3 /home
hdc4 957 Extended
hdc5 384 ext3 /
hdc6 259 ext3 /var
hdc7 314 swap

Is this likely to be a hardware problem or an installation configuration problem? Thanks.

You might want to partition your hardrive with druid tool included in installation if you don't want to mess around with fdisk, and I would suggest putting swap on primary partition, but for me it works on extended one.

Thanks Neo.

I actually tried the Druid and got the same results. I also tried to partition with fdisk and had a similar problem. I'm trying to set up a server for PHP and postgreSQL development Can any one suggest ideal partition sizes?

More info:
Before entering into the Disk Druid screen I always get the following message:

"dev/hdc7 has a partition type 0x82 (Linux Swap) but does not appear to be formatted as a Linux Swap partition. Would you like to format this partition as swap?"

I've tried both Yes and No responses without any luck. Should I consider using a boot disk instead of the CD, and manually formatting the swap (if this can be done)?
