Installation of Clipper/Xbase is not clear - Many diffrerent options available and convoluted

I have downloaded the most recent release of Clippper/Xbase from the Enternet. At first it looked like I was supposed to compile the system myself. Then I go to looking around into other directories and readme files and read that there are pre-compiled installable versions of the Clipper system.

However, Trying to follow the readme instructions, it seams impossible to load the Clipper system down.WOuld someone please give me exactly what needs to happen to load this software package into my Linux system. I have LimnuxMint 18.2 Cinnamon.

what are you trying to install?
have you tried using the linux mint software center?
that is how you are supposed to install software. no need to compile!
installing straight from the web is windows mentality, but you are using linux now!
