Installation inturrepted before ending; what to do now?

I ran on remote server
Code:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
As I disconnected from the remote server, the installation terminated before finishing. It was about to end.

Now, when I run gparted or firefox expecting a GUI to come, it throws the
same error
Code:
ravbholua@ravi:~$ type firefox
firefox is /usr/bin/firefox
ravbholua@ravi:~$ $_

(process:630): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed

(firefox:630): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
        Using the fallback 'C' locale.
Error: no display specified
ravbholua@ravi:~$ xterm
xterm: Xt error: Can't open display:
xterm: DISPLAY is not set
ravbholua@ravi:~$
This proves that it didn't install properly.

Now shall I uninstall and reinstall?

I would reinstall the ubuntu-desktop. In the long-run, it will probably be simpler than trying to find the missing components.

You could try a repair:

It should not be necessary to reinstall the entire OS.

You might want to look into using screen for tasks of this nature.

Well I didn't mean reinstalling the entire OS (sorry if my statement wasn't clear).
See, I ran the foll command:
Code:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
I wanted to know shall I run the foll:
Code:
sudo apt-get purge ubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
oresle I should simply run the command again as below:
Code:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
After running the command , as it got inturrepted , I had the feeling that already something is installed/changed/configured in my OS. Now before running it again, is it reqd. to 1st uninstall using the 'purge/autoremove' as mentioned above to bring it in the previous state. And then run the same command to install again.

I would try the simple install first. If that doesn't work, then go for remove and reinstall.

To put it starkly, it's already broke. You're not going to break it any more by trying the easiest way to fix it first.
