installation/boot problems

i am trying to install linux on my laptop...
during the initial boot process, it hangs up when it gets to the line:

usb-uhci.c: Detected 2 ports

maybe i need to disable the usb's during boot?...if so, how can i do that?

Do you have any devices hooked up to the ports? I had a similar problem with mandrake 9.1 It ended up being the way my via chipset was talking to my extigy. unplug the extigy device, problem solved. Appearently my particular chipset has a function that's out of spec.
