Install vmtools failure! kernel is not the right one! help me

when i running vmware-tools-config
then select the include diretory /usr/include
like this:

What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include] /usr/include

What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include] /usr/src/linux-2.4/include

The directory of kernel headers (version 2.4.20) does not match your running kernel (version 2.4.20-8). Even if the module were to compile successfully, it would not load into the running kernel.

what can i do for this?

First you need to have a copy of your kernel's source code before running that script. To make sure you have the right kernel version. Look at /proc/version, I think.

You can also install vmware tools after the virtual machine has booted up in its OS. I think in vmware its under File. Then wait patiently until you see vmware tool splash screen.

after this I make a symbolic link with the command

ln -s /usr/src/linux-2.4 /usr/src/linux
