Install VLC on Fedora 7, but not playing any video

I download vlc for fedora 7 from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-fedora.html. However, it does not seem to play any thing. I tested it with avi and flv. Is there any other codec I need to download?

Open a terminal and start VLC from there. The terminal will list the problems that VLC is having(this is a good troubleshooting method in general).

One the terminal, I invoke the progroam with vlc commands, then drag and drop a dvi file into the software window. I got following messgage.
$$ vlc
VLC media player 0.8.6g Janus
main warning: can't store message (Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character): found Chunk fourcc:e79e79e7 (
[00000336] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `IV41'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
[00000313] main playlist: nothing to play

For flv file, I got following mesg
$ vlc
VLC media player 0.8.6g Janus
main warning: can't store message (Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character): found Chunk fourcc:e79e79e7 (
