Install ubuntu linux on existing fedora partition
 

I have a fedora system which has a huge /storage (spanning multiple disk on LVM/JFS) partition and /home folder with lot of media file/scripts.
I am planning to switch to ubuntu. I don't have disk space elsewhere to shift the /storage partition somewhere else before switch. So is it possible to leave the storage (I can copy the contents of /home to /storage and then copy back after install) partition intact and install ubuntu by deleting other partitions.
If yes, step by step instructions will be helpful.

One more question: my existing system is 32 bit single core. But I plan to install 64 bit smp ubuntu on upgraded machine. Media files and scripts by themseleves would not be a issue. But is filesystem also 32bit/64bit ?? i.e. once I install ubuntu, will existing /storage partition still be okay after mounting. Or do I need to upgrade filesystem too (meaning shifting the files out to different system somehow and reformatting/resizing the disk with new filesystem).

Ubuntu will ask which partitions it should install to during the setup phase. All you need to do is tell the installer not to use your storage partitions.

As for the filesystem, that doesn't have anything to do with your CPU. The only things that change in a 64 bit environment are the binaries and libraries, everything else is the same.
