Install to a usb hard drive (with spinning platters)
I recently got a 2.5" hard drive and installed it into a usb case. I wanted to install dsl (damn small linux) onto it without disrupting the mbr on my standard hard rive. I surfed over to pendrivelinux.org and found the how to for that. I unpledged my internal hard drives and booted dossal from cd. with the external hard drive connected. I went throughout he install process and rebooted. My pc did not want to boot the usb drive. In the past I have booted knoppix and ubuntu from thumbdrives so i know it will boot usb. I went into the boot order at post and my hard drive appeared to be their. My main board is at the following link: http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Pro...uID=44&LanID=9
That should have all the info on my main board. My goal is to run qemu on that drive so i can practice with virtual enviroment with out a true dual boot system. Thanks for any help. |

mainboard wants to boot from network. Just sits their trying to get an ip address from a server that does not exist. I have a boot on lan option after all else does not boot. Similar to dl serise hp servers that have no os on them. |
