Are you referring to Redhat 4 or RHEL4? If you are talking about Redhat 4 this is a 12 years old if not more distro. If so then look at getting Fedora 8. It is the newest in the Redhat family type of distros. If not sure point us to a link you downloaded the app from. Also give it time for your question to be seen. 2 minutes asking for response is not nice. We are here to help on free time only. If you need faster support call Redhat if you are dealing with RHEL4 and use the paid contract support that came with the software when you got it.

That means the version of Red Hat you are trying to install does not support your hardware. Try a newer version, or try the latest version of a different distro.

If the sata controller is supported within the kernel itself then one can get the Redhat installed but not in the normal way.

www.centos.org

Centos is RHEL with the logos removed. Centos5.1 (RHEL5.1) is the current release.

Many distro support Sata but may not have them fully available during the install process. Like Redhat type distros the anaconda installer does not have full linux modules available they run some of the most common and not nescessary the latest or as latest as based on the kernel the installer is using.

The chipset of 915 does not really mean much. Could you post the actually motherboard model number. Also doubt this would be much help to us either unless others have one or one can get the pci id of the controller from a google searchWhat would work best is boot up with a Live cd like knoppix or kubuntu and run the command ' /sbin/lspci -v ' and post back the info on the controller section. The live cd may even have the module and you would be able to see the drive. If you can post output of /sbin/lsmod '.
