install raw disk partition on Red Hat 5.1 and prepare it to install Sybase ASE


it is pleasure to me to join this forum.
my first question:
I have Linux 5.1 enterprise, I want to create raw disk partition and prepare it install Sybase ASE on it.
what is the steps required to do this.
Note: I created sybase user and add it to the root group.
now I want to create the raw disk partition then access it to install Sybase ASE

You didn't mention which version of Sybase ASE you are using. The following page has links to documentation for the most recent versions.

I did this on Solaris 2.8 back in year 2001 but I forgot most of it. I remember that the sybase user was not privileged at all and that we ran the sybase startup under the sybase user account. The DBA set up the raw data partitions and her user account was not privileged at all either.

sorry for not mention the ASE version. but for Red Hat 5.1 it is recommended to use at least 15.0.2.
Just one note the partition in Linux is different from Solaris.
so I am still waiting you my friends to send me the solution

well i am a programmer but till now i was using Windows XP etc ,This is my first effort to try on linux so u can say me a newbie.As for now i will visit the forum to just study and read u guys who ask intelligent queries for quick solutions from forum's Experts.thx from inder dhanwani Ajmer India
