Install php5 on live webserver- What's the best way?

I'm a sysadmin of a webhosting company, and I've been charged with getting php5 to run on our RHEL3 server so that we can test future versions of software. We're presently running php4, and aren't readyo to make the switch, so I want to run both versions simultaneously, with different apache processes.

I've tried compiling php, but I run into errors every way I try. I just can't go around updating every library to some newer version that's not in the repository. What can I do to get php5 up and running?

I've used Fedora, which is similar to RHEL. For me there was never a problem installing the new PHP with yum. I am going on the assumption that if it didn't work, removing it and installng the old version with RPM would have been no problem.

Another option if you want both RPMs installed at the same time, you might be able to open up the rpm in konqueror and copy the files manually to an alternate location, calling it php5. You might want to "attempt" an install with yum first, aborting at the last minute. That way you can see what dependencies it wants. Then install those dependencies through yum before extracgint the rpm manually as before. This is just a suggestion. I don't know if it would work, but I don't see how it could do any harm (except for the unlikely event that there is something wrong with the new dependencies).

How do open the RPM in Konqueror? I've done it accidentally before, but cannot replicate it now.
