Install Opera 7 in Redhat 9.0
Hi,
I tried to install Opera 7 for linux in redaht 9.0. I installed the static rpm which does not want any dependecies. And I have the latest OS of redhat ie 9.0. But when I tries rpm -U opera......*.rpm, it threw me the error libXm.so.2 is needed by opera-7.11-20030515.1 and it quit installing. could you anybody over there please tell me what is the cause? Please help me as I am a newbie in Linux and I like Opera browser very much. Lot of Thanks in Advance. Bye Thanks and Regards Emmanuel Mathew. |
Hi,
this looks like the static package of opera isn't that static like the ppl from opera.com want to tell you :] Install the package where libXm.so.2 is inside (on debian systems lesstif2) and try again :) Other way: download the shared package and install everything else the package needs :) cu |
Hi,
Thanks for the information . but did you mean that I have to take the static package of the Debian? Or else do I have to install the shared package for Redhat and install all the dependencies? I think the latter is a bit difficult for me. Waht do you suggest? please help me. Lot of Thanks in Advance Bye.... |
I would suggest that you download the Static .tar.gz file from Opera.
tar -zxvf opera*.tar.gz Open virtual console su, then root password cd to directory where you untarred the package, should be an Opera directory sh install.sh That's it then Opera will install itself using its own installer. Good Luck :) |
I think what stony was suggesting was that you install the lesstif (or Motif) package to get the required library installed. Then try again to install the static Opera package.
